Stop the Killings; violence is alien to Islam – Imam urges
- Violence is alien to Islam
- Islam has come to give the women a clearly defined liberty and protect their interest.
- The month the Holy Book, the Quran, was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed
One of the most important days for Muslims, the holiday is the “festival of breaking the fast.”
More than one billion Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr today, as the month-long Ramadan fast ends and the festivities begin. The celebrations mark a time when communities within the Muslim world come together. Families and friends gather to show gratitude to Allah while celebrating the end of Ramadan, the 29 days daytime fast that marks the month Muslims believe their Holy Book, the Quran, was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.
The Muslim Community of Amolaso, Abeokuta, Ogun State, observed the prescribed prayers (salat) at 9am to mark the beginning of the festival.
The Imam Alhaji Arch. Tajudeen Ademoye who led the prayers stressed the impacts of the Ramadan, saying it is to purify Muslims from past sins and to refine them before another Ramadan.
“We thank Allaah for this opportunity. We glorify His oneness. It is important as Muslims to continue with the spirit of charity you are known for during the month of Ramadan, as well to desist from the major sins forbidden by Allaah”, he said.
“If you are able to survive a whole month without taking alcohol, without fornication / adultery, without backbiting and other forbidden sins, going back to any of it would mean swallowing what you have vomited”.
He reminded Muslims to be conscious of the six days fasting recommended by the Prophet. And to intensify their spiritual strength with daily tahaajud.
Imam Ademoye urged Muslims in the country to be tolerant to one another and to non-Muslims.
“Muslims must tolerate one another and to live in peace with the non-Muslims. You must eschew violence. Islam detest violence in any forms. This is the teaching of Islam as it was thought by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslims should not be found rioting, in extrajudicial killings and other forms of violence. We must learn to live in peace.”
“I call on the government at all levels to focus on peace building policies and programmes. Government should be proactive to stop the killings in almost every parts of the country.”
Addressing the women, Imam Ademoye called them to observe their duties and be obedience to their husband.
“Islam came to liberate women from acts of barbarism. Islam has come to give you a clearly defined liberty and protect your interests. Your roles are important in building a peaceful and productive society. Islam allows you to work, to earn and to pay zakat as possible”.
“You have to nurture and monitor your wards. Allaah enjoins you to be loyal and obedient to your husband, to be supportive, physically and spiritually and to be in state of chastity“, Imam Ademoye stressed.
Ramadan is one of the five Pillars of Islam, requiring prayer five times a day and generally encouraging a more reflective behavior.
Gifts are usually exchanged, and almsgiving is also a common practice. Another custom involves donning new clothes for the day, which marks a spiritual renewal.
